Black Radish Bar & Restaurant
Chef/owner Matthew Swezey serves some of the most innovative veggie-focused cuisine in the south, with hyper-seasonal, shareable dishes that will have even the biggest carnivores crowing for more. (Meat eaters don’t freak: they do have ribeye and chops here.) The mini sourdough boule is a required starter (to our minds), served with seaweed butter or olive oil. Other big deals on the menu include the cauliflower au poivre (roasted, with a parsley and garlic sauce and coconut milk black pepper cream) and the pastas, which are housemade and sooo good, like the unctuous ricotta gnocchi with winter green pesto. Pastas can be ordered in full or half portions. The wine list is built around sustainable and biodynamic vintages.
Black Radish is part of a local hospitality group that includes other excellent restaurants and watering holes, including the very fun cocktails, hot dogs, and burger joint South Station, 1215 S. Adams St.; breakfast and lunch spot Hawthorn Bistro & Bakery, 1307 N. Monroe, (tel. 850/354-8275); and El Cocinero Tacos & Tequila, 1303 Thomasville Rd., (tel. 850/329-6591).
