Villa Steno

This small, family-run inn with views from almost every room is a cheerful option in Monterosso, the biggest and busiest of the five Cinque Terre villages. The hotel is located in town, not on the water, but its inland position is far enough back from the main tourist area (about 5 minutes on foot) to enjoy some peace, quiet, and unobstructed views. The 16 fully modern, comfortable rooms feature soothing earth tones and more elegance—think striped upholstery, tufted headboards, and patterned floor tiles—than you might expect in this price range. All have private bathrooms, and all but two have their own private balcony or garden. After a day of hiking up and down the coast, guests can also lounge at the hotel's panoramic common terrace, which is surrounded by lemon and olive trees and offers views over Monterosso and the sparkling Ligurian sea beyond. There's even a small parking lot onsite, but if you're driving, do check with the hotel prior to arrival to ensure that space is available. (Note that Villa Steno is a steep, 12-minute walk from Monterosso's train station, so hailing a cab will spare you a sweaty and stressed-out arrival.)
