This 161-hectare (398-acre) park in the far west of Midtown was architect John G. Howard's gift to the city. He lived in Colborne Lodge, which still stands in the park. There's a large lake here called Grenadier Pond (great for ice skating in winter); a small zoo; a swimming pool; tennis courts; sports fields; bowling greens; and vast expanses of green for baseball, jogging, picnicking, cycling, and more. The Dream in High Park, an annual Shakespearean offering in the open air, is staged each summer and draws crowds who often picnic on-site.
