Mornings start early at this sleek, 38-seat cafe bar. Come 7:30am, well-tailored yuppies pop in for house-baked pastries (cornetti, pistachio cream–stuffed bombolone) and espresso drinks. Later on, the kitchen kicks into high gear, churning out elegant Italian plates made for sharing. Even the most basic dishes are knocked up a notch at Bar Buca: Meatballs are made with goat and ricotta, cacio e pepe gets an umami kick from uni, and burrata is stuffed to bursting with pesto. Brunch is particularly imaginative and great value. Bar Buca has a second location at 101 Eglinton Ave E (tel 416/599-2822).
