This handsome food market occupies two buildings. The primary market, called the South Market, runs throughout the week in a vast building constructed around the facade of the city's second city hall, built in 1850. Vendors sell meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, and dairy products, as well as other foodstuffs. The second St. Lawrence building, the North Market, is scheduled to reopen in 2021, but a temporary North Market has opened, confusingly enough, just south of the South Market at 125 The Esplanade. The temporary North Market continues to host Saturday farmer's markets and Sunday antique markets, where peddlers sell everything from naughty Victorian postcards to rare books. The South Market is closed Sundays and Mondays, with the North Market open Sundays from 7am to 5pm.
