You need spend no more than 2 hours or so exploring the major monuments outlined here. With any time remaining, you can visit the Buckfast Butterflies & Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary, Buckfastleigh (tel. 01364/642916; www.ottersandbutterflies.co.uk), which is open only from April to October daily 10am to 5:30pm. Admission is £7.25 for adults, £6.25 seniors, £5.25 for children ages 3 to 15, and $22 for families with two adult and two children. On display are exotic butterflies and moths from around the world along with beautiful birds in landscaped gardens. Three different species of otter are on display, along with native British otter.

This symbol of Totnes, originally built as a priory (monastery) in 1553, contains an old gaol (jail), a collection of civic memorabilia, and the table Oliver Cromwell used to sign documents during his visit to Totnes in 1646.
