Hôtel des Beaux-Arts
Despite the fact that its set in a charming 18th-century red brick building, this hotel is far from conventional. Each bedroom was designed by a different artist, and each contains a startling piece of art. Choose from the relatively classic rooms to those with swirling patterns on the walls, punchy murals, and oddball furniture (like a side table in the shape of an orange teddy bear). Such daring has to be done well to work, and this hotel has perfected it. Our favorite? The “Chamber Only You” for its terrace and top floor view, though all rooms do look over the Garonne River. The hotel serves breakfast and brunch, and the independently run Brasserie Les Beaux-Arts in the same building offers both traditional and contemporary dishes, including vegetarian options.
