Blennerville Windmill

Reaching 20m (66 ft.) into the sky, this snow white windmill must surely be the most photographed object in Tralee. Perched at the edge of the river, the windmill’s blades still turn, and that makes it rare in this part of the world. Built in 1800, it flourished until 1850, when it was largely abandoned. After decades of neglect, it was restored, and is now fully operational. You can climb to the top and see some of its complex inner workings in detail. The visitor complex has an exhibition on the Famine years (when Blennerville was a major point of emigration), plus an audiovisual theater, craft workshops, a model railway exhibition, and a cafe. The windmill is about a mile outside of central Tralee on the N86.
