Baker’s Cay Resort Key Largo, Curio Collection by Hilton

A short drive from Miami, this contemporary property is very peaceful, and actually quite beautiful, which you’d never guess from its motel-esque facade. Almost all rooms face the ocean, and the décor pulls from beachy places around the globe, with ikat (Indonesian) and Mediterranean-styled patterned pillows, dark wood floors, conch-shaped lamps, and Turkish tiling in the bathrooms. The resort has two pools (one adults only) but most guests head instead to the hotel’s private, white-sand beach where they do watersports, walk on nature trails, lounge on chairs, or hang out at the Tiki bar. The dining and drinking options are so good you won’t really need to leave. Calusa features a contemporary American menu with Creole-Caribbean accents and DryRocks is the hopping bar with live music, fire pits, and an impressive selection of tequila. There are also pool and tiki bars. Resort fee gets you use of bikes, paddleboards, fishing rods with bait, and assorted fun events, such as the one we ran into during our stay—a huge foam party for kids and the young at heart.
