Just one of two spots to stay in the tiny town of Layton (pop. as of 2012: 186) sits on a pretty piece of waterfront, midway between Islamorada and Marathon, graced with hundreds of palm trees and tropical foliage. It prides itself on its promise of no hustle, no valets, and no bartenders in Hawaiian shirts. Rooms and efficiencies have smallish bathrooms, but are pleasant and well maintained. The best deal is the two-bedroom bay-view suite, with a spacious living area, a large private deck overlooking the Gulf, full kitchen, and two full baths. Fifteen efficiencies and suites have kitchenettes. Pretty cool in their own right, the new 2-bedroom Hemingway suites have balconies, fantastic views, and luxury appointments, and several units are pet friendly. At press time the restaurant was slated to be closed until late spring 2015.
