Sonesta Posadas del Inca Yucay
Built as a monastery in the late 1700s, then later used as a private hacienda, this atmospheric colonial-village-like complex is one of the most reliable properties in the Sacred Valley. While newer hotels have got it beat in luxury, the history of the property and many original details like stone fountains and worn wooden beams are not something that can be re-created. The rooms are weirdly decorated with red brick or wood floors and faux-stone walls, while the bathrooms can be somewhat cramped. The grounds are more impressive, with a chapel brought in whole from a provincial town, a maze of gardens, and a good restaurant with one of the area’s best lunch buffets.
