By Car -- From Mérida or Cancún, you can take either the Hwy. 180 cuota (toll road) or Hwy. 180 libre (free). The toll is 233 pesos from Cancún and 135 pesos from Mérida. The cuota passes 2km (1 1/4 miles) north of the city; the exit is at the crossing of Hwy. 295 to Tizimín. Hwy. 180 libre, passing through a number of villages (with their requisite topes) takes significantly longer. Both 180 and 295 lead straight to downtown. Leaving is just as easy: From the main square, Calle 41 turns into 180 E. to Cancún; Calle 39 heads to 180 W. to Chichén Itzá and Mérida. To take the cuota to Mérida or Cancún, take Calle 40.

By Bus -- Buses leave throughout the day for Mérida (134 pesos) and Cancún (82 pesos). You can also get several buses a day to Playa del Carmen (96 pesos) and Tulum (64 pesos). To get to Chichén Itzá, take a second-class bus, which leaves at least every hour. The recently remodeled bus station is at the corner of calles 39 and 46.
