Hotels in Vero Beach and Sebastian

You can choose to stay on the mainland or on the beach. As you might expect, the beachfront accommodations are a bit more expensive, but, we think, worth it. A great spot to know, especially if you’re planning to fish or drink like one, is Captain Hiram’s Resort, 1580 U.S. Hwy. 1, Sebastian (tel. 772/388-8588), where 86 clean island-style rooms and suites are available adjacent to the bar/eatery and overlooking the water.

For those traveling with tots, there’s the newly renovated, all-inclusive former Club Med now Wyndham property, Sandpiper Bay Resort, 4500 SE Pine Valley (tel. 772/398-5100), featuring three restaurants, an array of family activities, two pools, tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and a slew of watersports.

Comfortable and inexpensive chain options near the Vero Beach Outlets, off S.R. 60, include Holiday Inn Express, 9400 19th Lane, (tel. 800/465-4329 or 772/567-2500) and Hampton Inn, 9350 19th Lane, (tel. 800/426-7866 or 772/770-4299). Rates for both run between $113 and $205 and include breakfast.

Camping

The Vero Beach and Sebastian areas of the Treasure Coast are popular with campers, who choose from nearly a dozen camping locations. If you aren’t camping at the scenic and popular Sebastian Inlet State Park, then try the Vero Beach Kamp RV Park, 8850 U.S. 1, Wabasso (tel. 772/589-5665). This 120-site campground is 2 miles from the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, and a quarter mile from the Indian River, a big draw for anglers. There’s access to running water and electricity, as well as showers, a shop, and hookups for RVs. Rates range from $36 to $71 for campsites. Cabins are also available at $58 to $74 a night for two guests, and cottages are available for $67 to $87 a night for four guests. Bring your own linens. To get here, take I-95 to exit 69 East; at U.S. 1, turn left.
