Most people would not expect to find great steak in a designer shopping mall like Stilwerk, alongside the Sofitel Wien Stephansdom. But since opening in September 2013, they've been full every night. In this space, which is almost hidden from view, they have made a warm and inviting oasis amidst the skyscraper's sleek black marble. The staff presents the various cuts in an LED-lit chilled case, explaining how differences in thickness and fat content influence the taste, or how long to grill it. The Argentine beef comes in cuadril (sirloin), chorizo (rump), ancho (rib-eye), and lomo (filet) cuts. There's also a skewer with the four cuts of beef. Diners can also choose to "pimp" their steak with a king prawn, grilled goose liver, organic egg, black winter truffle, or soft-shell crab. It's like turning the meal into surf and turf, just with more options. I heard one regular order his rib-eye steak with four eggs sunny-side up. There are also yummy sides like steak frites or truffle gnocchi, and the Late Night Steak offer gives you a 150-gram filet steak with a side and sauce after 10pm for only €16. This is a fun choice for small groups or a romantic dinner, and the pleasant spatters of conversation make the perfect setting to enjoy fine Austrian or Argentine wines with some juicy meat.
