This exquisite, artfully decorated inn is set around a huge tamarind tree, from which the property takes its name. The decor (lovely, with mosaic tiles and dark wood furnishings) is by the original owner, a well-respected interior designer, and the maintenance is topnotch. The only thing that keeps this inn from getting three stars is its location, which is, alas, not on the beach (it’s a 5-min. walk to the beach down a sand path and a 10-min. walk to Esperanza). However, most guests don’t seem to mind, renting jeeps to beach hop and using the property’s large pool. A delicious cooked-to-order breakfast is included with rates. No children under 17 allowed during high season (13 during low season).
