If your idea of a getaway involves gardens, spas, and serenity rather than sand and a line at the local ice cream stand, the Founders Inn will suit you just fine. A 26-acre resort adjacent to Regent College and the Christian Broadcasting Network campus it's 20 minutes from the oceanfront but Founders offers a shuttle to take guests there and to the airport. This Georgian-style campus features four different room types, all with colonial flair, divided between the James and York Lodges: standard queen, standard double, parlor suites with a king bed, small living room space, and fireplace king rooms with pullout sofa and lots of extra floor space. The parlor suites offer the most room—and the four corner rooms are bright and extra-cheery. There are pet-friendly rooms in the York Lodge. Outside are manicured gardens, tennis courts, lawn games, and swimming pools, including a splash pool for little kids. The Flowering Almond Spa has a variety of treatment rooms, as well an indoor pool, fitness room, and hot tub. The inn's restaurant Swan Terrace is quite good and offers a breakfast and lunch buffet and fine dining at dinnertime. The Hunt Room opens in afternoon for more casual fare and local craft beer. On Saturdays, afternoon tea is served on the lakefront terrace, of course. It's that kind of place.
