Watkins Glen proper isn't loaded with great lodgings, though options near the lake include sleeping at a winery right on the lake's west bank or at one of the growing number of small inns along the east bank. If you're arriving for NASCAR or the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, you may have to look far and wide for accommodations; those in and near Geneva, Corning, Elmira, Ithaca, and Hammondsport are all easy drives from Watkins Glen. Call tel. 800/607-4552 or see www.schuylerny.com for assistance in getting a room. If you want to camp, check out the sites at Watkins Glen State Park (tel. 607/535-4511), Clute Memorial Park (tel. 607/535-4438), or the "kutely" spelled KOA Kampground & Kabins, located on Route 414 (tel. 800/562-7430; www.watkinsglenkoa.com), which has a heated pool and good bathrooms.
