Bantry House

Built around 1750 for the earls of Bantry, this Georgian house holds furniture and objets d’art from all over Europe, including Aubusson and Gobelin tapestries said to have been made for Marie Antoinette. The gardens, with original statuary, are beautifully kept—climb the steps behind the building for a panoramic view of the house, gardens, and Bantry Bay. Check out the informative exhibition on the ill-fated Spanish Armada, which, led by the Irish rebel Wolfe Tone, attempted to invade the country near Bantry House in 1769. Fully guided tours (included in the ticket price) take place daily at 2pm; otherwise, you’re free to wander around by yourself. And if you really love it here, you can spend the night (€180–€230 double).
