Mary Anne’s

The handsome exterior of this friendly pub in Castletownshend, near Skibbereen—in fact, the only pub in the village—is a photo op waiting to happen. The ochre paint and neat black windows look so satisfyingly publike that it may as well be on the front of a postcard (for all we know, it might well be). Fortunately the food is just as good. This being the West Cork coast, the seafood is often what stands out—fresh, local crab salad, local scallops, fish pie with plenty of, guess what, local ingredients—but there are meatier choices as well, such as roast duck in a sauce of blood orange and star anise, or lamb chops. You can eat in a little courtyard terrace if you’re blessed with sunshine.
