Amizmiz
More a town than a village, Amizmiz (pronounced "Amz-meez") itself doesn't offer much scenic beauty, but its surrounding countryside makes it worth the trip. A track winding above the town leads to a forest of eucalyptus trees and a maison forestière (ranger's station), from where there are great walking and mountain-biking trails. You can also rent bikes in nearby Ouirgane. The landscape is dotted with terraced groves of olive and lemon trees, and in spring the scent of lavender and thyme abounds. The town's Tuesday souk is billed as one of the largest Berber markets of the Atlas region and comes across as a type of mini-Marrakech, with stalls of spices and fresh produce interspersed with the occasional barber, blacksmith, and the odd, sometimes very odd, entertainer. The area around Amizmiz lacks the hard-core trekking vibe or oft-pretentious skiing scene of the neighboring Ourika Valley, but, particularly when combined with a visit to the Lalla Takerkoust lake, it's a very pleasant place to visit. Plus it's less than an hour away from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
