Hotels in Yachats

In addition to the hotels listed below, plenty of rental homes are available in Yachats. Contact Ocean Odyssey (www.ocean-odyssey.com; tel. 800/800-1915 or 541/547-3637), or Yachats Village Rentals (www.97498.com; tel. 888/288-5077 or 541/547-3501). Rates for most vacation homes range from around $140 to $225 per night.

Campgrounds

Beachside State Recreation Site (tel. 541/563-3220) is just north of Yachats on U.S. 101, but I don't particularly recommend it. To make reservations, contact ReserveAmerica (tel. 800/452-5687; www.reserveamerica.com). For exploring the rugged Cape Perpetua area, the Forest Service's Cape Perpetua Campground, in a wooded setting set a little way back from the water, is your best option. To make reservations, contact the National Recreation Reservation Service (tel. 877/444-6777; www.recreation.gov).

Just south of Cape Perpetua, there are a couple of campgrounds within Siuslaw National Forest. Rock Creek Campground (tel. 877/444-6777 or 541/547-3289 for reservations; www.fs.fed.us/r6/siuslaw) is tucked back in the woods along a pretty creek and is a good choice for tenters and anyone who dislikes crowds. Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park (tel. 800/551-6949 or 541/547-3416; www.oregon.gov/oprd/parks) is the area's state-park option and is one of only a few coastal state parks that do not take reservations (although you can reserve a yurt here). Campsites are across the highway from a pretty beach just north of Heceta Head.
