Getting There

There are direct flights from Seoul's Gimpo Airport to Yeosu Airport, 979 Sinpung-li, Yulchon-myeon, Yeosu-si (tel. 061/683-7997; http://gimpo.airport.co.kr/doc/yeosu_eng), which is located equidistant to Yeosu-si and Suncheon. Asiana Airlines and Korean Airlines offer a total of eight flights daily to and from Gimpo Airport. Korean Airlines has one flight daily to and from Jeju-do. There are both airport limousine and local buses (no. 32, 33, 35, or 96) available to Yeosu city or Suncheon. You can catch the buses in front of the airport and local service starts at W1,000.

Yeosu is the last stop on the Jeolla train line, which starts in Iksan. There are 15 daily trains from Seoul to Suncheon with just as many trains from Suncheon to Yeosu. Trains run once a day to Mokpo, Iksan, and Jinju, and more frequently to Busan.

Buses from Seoul to Yeosu run daily every 40 minutes. Fares start at W28,600 and the ride lasts about 5 1/2 hours. Daily buses from Busan run every 40 minutes and take about 3 hours. Daily buses from Gwangju run every 30 minutes and take about 2 hours. Express buses run from Daegu also, but from other cities, you'll have to take regular intercity buses, which take a bit longer.

From the Yeosu Ferry Terminal (tel. 061/663-0117), you can take boats to and from islands, including Jeju-do, Geomun-do, Geumo-do, Sa-do, Yeon-do, Oenaro-do, and Cho-do.

If you're driving, take either the Honam Expressway (road 25) or the Namhae Expressway to the Suncheon IC. To get to Yeosu from there, take national highway 17 and follow the signs to Yeosu.

Getting Around

Both Suncheon and Yeosu have good bus systems that will carry you around the cities, between them, and to sites on the outskirts of each. Most buses in Yeosu start from the bus terminal and run through downtown. In Suncheon, you can catch buses from (and between) both the bus terminal and the train station.

Suncheon offers a free city tour that starts from Suncheon Station. There are two routes, both taking about 7 hours (route 1 takes about a half-hour longer). Route 1 starts at 9:30am and goes to the Naganeupseong Folk Village, Songgwangsa, and Seonamsa. Route 2 stops at Suncheon Bay, Sangsa Dam, Swonamsa, and Naganeupseong Folk Village. You'll be responsible for your own entrance fees, but you'll get a group discount.

Visitor Information

You can find a tourist information center (tel. 061/690-2939) on the first floor of the Yeosu Airport. There is also one at the entrance to Odong-do (tel. 061/664-8978), one at Yeosu harbor (tel. 061/690-7532), and one in front of the Suncheon Train Station. Fast Facts

In Yeosu, the post office is located on the city's main street. You will find many banks and businesses around the old city center. Most banks are open from 9am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

In Suncheon, the post office is just a little way down from the train station. Most banks and businesses can be found in the business district between the bus terminal and the central market.
