Restaurants in Yosemite National Park
There are plenty of dining possibilities in and near the park, so you certainly won't go hungry. However, you won't find many bargains, so be sure to bring a full wallet with your empty stomach.
Outside the Park
To get a bite to eat, sip a cup of coffee, buy a book, shop for gear, check your e-mail, and relax in a hammock all in one place in Groveland, visit the Mountain Sage, 18653 Main St. (tel. 209/962-4686). In Mariposa, the Butterfly Cafe, 5027 CA 140 (tel. 209/742-4114; www.thebutterflycafe.com), is likewise a good pick for breakfast or lunch.
Picnic & Camping Supplies
If you forget something, chances are, you'll be able to get it in the national park's bustling Yosemite Valley, though elsewhere in the park, it's tough to find equipment. In the valley, the best place to pick up supplies and camping equipment is the Yosemite Village Store, which stocks groceries, film, and maps; it also has an ATM. Nearby, the Village Sport Shop carries fishing, camping, and other outdoor gear; plus, it sells fishing licenses. The Yosemite Lodge Gift Shop and Curry Village Gift & Grocery stock some supplies. The Mountain Shop in Curry Village sells clothing and equipment for rock climbs, day hikes, and backcountry excursions, while the Tuolumne Meadows Gift & Mountain Shop also carries backpacking supplies, including maps and dehydrated food. The Badger Pass Sport Shop (open only during the snow season) stocks ski clothing and other winter supplies. There are also several small convenience stores located throughout the park.
In Mariposa, you'll find a good selection of groceries plus a deli at Pioneer Market, 5034 Coakley Circle (tel. 209/742-6100), behind the town rest area. In Oakhurst, our choice for a grocery store is Raley's, 40041 CA 41 (tel. 559/683-8300). In El Portal, just outside the park's Arch Rock Entrance, you'll find the well-stocked El Portal Food Market, on CA 140 (tel. 209/379-2632), featuring good coffee, pastries, and premade sandwiches. On the east side of the park in Lee Vining, the upscale Mono Market (tel. 760/647-1010) can't be beat if you're in search of natural and organic foods.

Cafe at the Bug
After a day of hiking the trails in Yosemite, there are few places I'd rather hoist a pint of beer and eat dinner than the deck at the Yosemite Bug. The service is well-oiled, the vibe is friendly and social, and the healthy food is first-rate. That being said, the operation is…$Near The Park - American
Iron Door Saloon and Grill
Said to be the oldest bar in California, the Iron Door has been open for business since 1852. It is named for its fireproof iron doors, imported from England a century and a half ago, and remains a must-see stop in Groveland en route to Yosemite. Black-and-white photos detail the…$Near The Park - American
Mountain Room Restaurant
It is hard to look away from the view of Yosemite Falls, even when your meal arrives. Not that the food is not up to snuff—some prefer this restaurant to the Ahwahnee—but the 2,424-foot waterfall, framed within floor-to-ceiling windows is bound to take your breath away. The menu’s…$$$Elsewhere In The Park - New American
Savoury’s
This is my pick for a nice dinner in Mariposa. The contemporary space features plenty of open space and colorful art, with a menu that offers top-quality beef, poultry, and seafood, as well as several vegetarian dishes. I'm a sucker for the spicy shrimp diablo, but the food is…$$Near The Park - American/Continental
The Ahwahnee Dining Room
This majestic room, sporting 350-foot ceilings, granite pillars, and space for 350, is without a doubt the finest restaurant in Yosemite. The regularly changing dinner menu is a study in continental cuisine, with steaks, duck, and seafood, as well as creative dishes like Moroccan…$$$Elsewhere In The Park - American
Tuolumne Meadows Lodge
There are not many options in the high country of Yosemite, but despite the lack of competition, the fare here is top-notch. Hearty breakfasts like eggs, pancakes, and granola make good fuel for hikers, then at the end of the day dinner options include prime rib, mountain trout and…$$Elsewhere In The Park - American
Wawona Dining Room
To jibe with the Victorian ambiance here, the menu consists of tried and true—and deliciously prepared—American classics like pot roast, meatloaf, and flat iron steak for dinner (as well as several vegetarian entrees). Breakfast features hearty dishes like the “Grizzly Giant”…$$Elsewhere In The Park - American
White Wolf Lodge
This is the only option outside of Tuolumne Meadows Lodge at the higher elevations in Yosemite, and it is likewise reliably good. Breakfasts are eggs, granola, and dinner is served family-style. Selections vary throughout the season, but you can expect beef, seafood, and vegetarian…$$Elsewhere In The Park - Deli/New American
Whoa Nellie Deli
This restaurant is in a gas station, but dismiss any preconceived notions of gas-station grub now—this is the best restaurant in the Lee Vining area. The far-flung menu includes ahi sashimi, fish tacos, chicken pizza, and buffalo meatloaf, served with massive salads and fresh fruit.…$Near The Park
