Tulip season in the Netherlands typically runs from the middle of March to the middle of May, but travelers are advised to make plans far in advance. Tour slots can fill up quickly—and no wonder, considering Dutch tulips are a spring sight as iconic as (but considerably less nauseating than) Peeps marshmallow chicks.
Reflecting the high demand for tulip tourism in the Netherlands, Boat Bike Tours—which, as the company's name suggests, arranges trips combining cycling and small-ship cruises—is offering its most bloom-based Dutch departures ever in spring 2026. (Editor's note: Frommer's is not a partner of this business—we're just passing along a sweet vacation idea, as we do.)
Travelers can choose from 54 different departure dates across six itineraries available from late March to early May.
There's a range of prices, tour lengths, boat varieties, and biking styles to suit varying customer preferences, too.
“Being from the Netherlands, tulip tours are our specialty—and we’ve got a wide variety of ways to see the spring bloom,” said Laurens Winkel, the CEO of Boat Bike Tours, in a statement. “Choose a short 5-day tour, our popular 8-day premium tour aboard a Magnifique barge, a sail-and-bike trip into the Wadden Sea, or our new tulips and Dutch heritage tour. With all of them, you’re sure to enjoy fields upon fields of colorful flowers, our equally famous windmills and cheeses, picturesque towns, and more by boat and bike.”

What to Expect on Boat Bike Tours' Tulip Trips
Whether you opt for a 5- or 8-day tour, you can go for the standard experience or shell out for the Premium version with a "higher level of comfort aboard the boat."
Your floating hotel can be an intimate barge; a larger, more modern "cycling cruise ship" outfitted with amenities such as lounges and a rooftop deck; or a two-, three-, or four-masted schooner for a traditional sailing experience.
All of Boat Bike Tours' tulip itineraries begin and end in Amsterdam and include a stop at the renowned Keukenhof gardens.
Depending on the trip you choose, you'll also get the chance to pedal among the petals on scenic bike rides through areas such as the world's largest flowering bulb field near Den Helder or Limmen's Hortus Bulborum garden, dedicated to preserving rare and historic bulbs.
Naturally, there will be plenty of opportunities to see historic windmills and stuff yourself with cheese in cities whose names have become synonymous with delicious: Alkmaar, Gouda, and Edam.
Most of the biking tours are guided, with seasoned professionals explaining local history and culture along the way. There's also an independent itinerary for advanced cyclists who prefer to go at their own pace.
Prices start at €849 ($993) per person for a 5-night standard tour and go up to €1,599 ($1,871) per person for the premium 8-night trip.
In addition to accommodations on the ship, even the basic option includes daily meals and tours. Airfare and bike or e-bike rentals are extra.
The earliest departure dates are in late March 2026, with dates into early May. (Lucky you: The newest edition of Frommer's Amsterdam Day by Day is slated for release in February 2026).
According to the online reservations calendar, some tours have already been fully booked.
