Gen Z has disseminated a bevy of cultural trends, some fun and endearing like choreographed TikTok dances, others less comprehensible (let us never speak of that Labubu madness again).
On the travel front, where immobilizing indecisiveness is not only common but a full-blown personality type during vacation planning, the trend embraced by more and more younger globe-trotters is astrology—using the zodiac to inform destination, hotel, transportation, and even companion decisions.
As a matter of fact, Skyscanner’s Travel Trends 2025 Report revealed that more than 40% of people aged 18 to 34 are interested in using astrology to plan their next trip. (Roughly speaking, members of Gen Z were born between 1997 and 2012, so evidently young millennials are astrology-curious as well.)
Major hospitality groups like Marriott International and CheapCaribbean have taken notice, offering curated, zodiac-inspired packages at select properties.
Participating in the trend can be as simple as heeding a travel horoscope on social media or, for more customized results, seeking the services of respected professionals such as celebrity astrologist Kyle Thomas, who has spent his career dispensing astrology-based advice to clients from all over the world.
“One of my favorite things about astrology is that it was built to encompass all of life and all of human experiences,” he says. “Travel is certainly something that it can aid with.”
How to use astrology as a travel tool
There are essentially two ways to rely on your zodiac sign to plan an upcoming trip, with or without an assist from an expert.
The first and most straightforward approach is to simply lean into the element and general characteristics associated with your primary sun sign as well as your moon and rising signs.
Astrologists believe your sun sign represents inherent personality traits, your moon sign represents your inner self and internalized emotions, and your rising sign represents your outward persona.
A quick and easy way to determine your sun, moon, and rising signs is through the Astrological Association’s birth chart calculator. Simply input your birth location, time, and date to view the results.
“You can look at traits that each zodiac sign possesses and see what may be more of interest to them,” explains Thomas. “For instance, people with a lot of fire or air in their charts tend to be more adventurous and spontaneous, while those who possess a lot of earth or water may focus on trips that are a bit more planned or sentimental.”
“As for compatibility, you can [also] see if people may align well when it comes to travel,” he adds.
Those willing to put in a bit more effort can incorporate astrocartography. That’s the practice of creating a personalized world map with planetary “lines” based on your birth date, time, and place.
The destinations that these markers run through are said to harbor the strongest energy sources in association with celestial bodies that symbolize and, ultimately, dictate different aspects of daily life. Venus represents love, the moon stands for emotional depth, Mars for action and adventure, and Mercury for communication.
It is believed that if you want to enhance any of these areas in the near future, you should travel to the cities where the relevant lines run directly through.
Dani de La Osa, a public relations executive in the travel industry, says she was “swept away” by the concept of planning astrology-based travel—so much so that she used it to inspire a trip and subsequent move to Seattle (though she now resides in Florida).
“My Venus line, which represents love, beauty, and pleasure, runs directly through [Seattle],” she says, adding that the decision to go there led to life-defining partnerships, friendships, community, and romance. “Every time I am in Seattle, I just feel so open emotionally and everyone is so lovely.”
New York–based Niku Klloboçishta, a reiki practitioner and tarot reader, is also a strong proponent of planning trips with the support of birth charts.
“I thought my Aries sun would definitely be a good way to dive into my next travel experience since I identify strongly with my sign,” he says.
So he sought the help of an astrologer, who narrowed down prospective locales by incorporating Klloboçishta’s moon and rising placements. The astrologer also tracked an adventure-yielding Mars line, since Klloboçishta had expressed interest in taking a more active vacation.
“That helped significantly,” says Klloboçishta, who ended up going on a random yet impactful trip to Guatemala. “I had never considered going there before, so I didn't have many expectations. But I will say that it blew my mind.”
In the end, Klloboçishta says the trip was a perfect mix of history and nature, complete with the “invigoration” and “exhilaration” that he needed in that moment.
How to find an astrologer for travel advice
Should anyone be interested in seeking the expertise of an astrologist, a simple Google search for top-rated professionals in the area is a great start. Comb through the reviews and determine whether or not these individuals’ skills align with what you’re looking for. For the purposes of vacation planning, keep an eye out for past clients who mention keywords like “travel” and “astrocartography” in reviews.
Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $300 per hour for these services, depending on the astrologer’s experience and skill level.
While there aren’t many comprehensive databases of accredited astrologers, you can check out the American Federation of Astrologers as a resource. The organization’s list includes reputable members from across the globe who have passed a testing program the group describes as “one of the most, if not the most, rigorous in the industry.”
Additionally, mobile apps like Linea and Co-Star can assist those who want to decipher birth charts on their own.
When all else fails, Reddit offers an abundance of active threads for astrology amateurs to weigh in on specific requests. The feedback may not always be accurate or even logically sound, but a lively discussion may help get the ball rolling.
All signs point to taking the trip
Whether these meaningful journeys are a result of universal destiny or an unsubstantiated excuse to pack up and leave can’t be known, of course.
Still, a professional astrologer or engaged online community may help to navigate and interpret the often confusing and nuanced realm of astrology. Or, at the very least, help narrow ideas down and provide some planning clarity for those who become easily overwhelmed.
After all, the more time spent planning and fretting, the less time spent enjoying and exploring.
