Braemar on Parliament Street

History and character are at the heart of this three-story Edwardian gentleman's town house (ca. 1901); you feel it as soon as you walk in. Four rooms -- two with en-suite bathrooms, two with shared bathroom -- are riddled with charm. The Batten Suite (once home to legendary pilot Jean Batten's father) is the best and biggest. The owners have an astonishing collection of historic Auckland photographs, and the numerous Persian rugs and colonial antiques make this place a feast for the eye and a home away from home. It's the only upmarket B&B in the central business district and it's just a short walk from trendy High Street, downtown activities, restaurants, and transport systems. Braemar earned its Qualmark Enviro-Silver rating for its eco-friendly approach to hosting, energy conservation, and recycling.
