Frommer's Review
Five new halls were designed and reconstructed in 2007 in this museum, which was inaugurated in 1889 by Emperor Wilhelm II. In a modern exhibit hall, the most stunning attraction is the Brachiosaurus Brancai, the world's tallest mounted dinosaur skeleton, a beast that lived some 150 million years ago and was discovered in Tanzania in 1909. The reptile's bones are presented in accordance with the latest scientific findings.
The exhibition features a total of seven dinosaurs "running" as a group. Adjoining halls feature a scientific Jurassic Park filled with prehistoric reptiles. An original fossil of the ancient bird Archaeopteryx went on display for the first time in 2007. You can also see the biggest collection of meteorites in Germany, including the gigantic iron meteorite found in Namibia. Large dioramas depict the fauna of the Bavarian Alps and an Icelandic bird colony from 1918 (one of the first of its kind ever designed). Part of Berlin's Humboldt University, the museum owns 25 million objects and exhibits, and is one of the most significant institutions of its type in the world.
