Frommer's Review
This is a more luxe version of Art'otel. Set about a block from Unter den Linden, this hotel was built as an avant-garde architectural showcase in the mid-1970s by the then-East German government. Today, despite frequent renovations, it still evokes a jazzy, moderno, and vaguely dated kind of architecture that features lots of chrome and stainless steel. There's a bustle here, however, thanks in part to a hardworking and polite staff, and a regular clientele of business clients and conventioneers. Avant-garde artwork is exhibited throughout, and Philippe Starck created some of the furniture. Rooms are individually designed, soothing, uncluttered, and comfortable. Most provide a fax outlet and all have reclining chairs. Each unit comes with a good-size private bathroom with tub and shower.
