Frommer's Review
This is another of Spain's important art museums, containing both medieval and modern works, including paintings by Velázquez, Goya, Zurbarán, and El Greco. Among the works of non-Spanish artists are The Money Changers by the Flemish painter Quentin Massys and The Lamentation Over Christ by Anthony van Dyck. In its modern wing, the museum contains works by Gauguin, Picasso, Léger, Sorolla, and Mary Cassatt. The gallery is particularly strong in 19th- and 20th-century Basque artists, the foremost of whom is the modern sculptor Eduardo Chillida, who created a massive piece titled Monument to Iron. You can also walk in the English-inspired gardens around the museum, 4 blocks south of the old quarter.
