Frommer's Review
No hotel in Bilbao has the whimsical design of this charmer. Facing the Guggenheim Museum, it is a government-rated five-star establishment. The mansion reflects the design and conceptual wit of Javier Mariscal, who created the 1992 Olympic mascot Cobi in Barcelona. A famous architect, Iñaki Aurreroextea, provided the setting. The exterior is created from polished stone, with black glass windows cantilevered out from the facade of odd angles, reflecting the architecture of Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Bilbao. Mariscal called his concept "a colorist microcosmos." Each floor has its own color scheme, ranging from ochers to blues to reds, even such "box-of-chocolate" tones as vanilla, cocoa, and caramel. On the seventh floor, a wooden deck opens onto a panoramic view of the Guggenheim and of Bilbao itself.

| Frommer's Spain 2010 | |
| 0 stars | Frommer's Recommended | |
| 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
