Chéticamp -- A handful of motels service the thousands of travelers who pass through each summer. Laurie's Motor Inn, on Main Street (tel. 800/959-4253 or 902/224-2400), has more than 50 motel rooms in three buildings well situated right in town, with rates of C$99 to C$149 (US$89-US$134/£50-£75) double. The inn also manages some nicer suites and apartments around town; inquire if you're interested in something larger, coming with a family, staying a while, or need cooking facilities.
Baddeck -- Try Auberge Gisele's, 387 Shore Rd. (tel. 800/304-0466 or 902/295-2849), a modern 75-room hotel that's open May to late October and popular with bus tours; regular rooms cost C$135 to C$175 (US$122-US$158/£68-£88) and suites are C$40 to C$100 (US$36-US$90/£20-£50) more. Or try the Cabot Trail Motel, Route 105, 1.6km (1 mile) west of Baddeck (tel. 902/295-2580), with 38 motel units and four chalets overlooking the lake, as well as a heated outdoor pool and private saltwater beach. Doubles run around C$95 to C$115 (US$86-US$104/£48-£58), the cabins a bit more.
Ingonish -- A number of serviceable cottage courts and motels are located in this area. (If booking by phone, be sure to find out which Ingonish you're staying in; the town names around here all sound the same, leading to possible confusion.)
Glenghorm Beach Resort in Ingonish (tel. 800/565-5660 or 902/285-2049) has about 75 units on a spacious 8-hectare (20-acre) property that fronts a sandy beach. Some rooms feature painted cinder-block walls, and the decorating is a bit dated, with avocado or gold hues that recall a bygone era. Options include motel rooms and efficiencies, along with cottages and some elaborate suites. Prices are C$80 to C$129 (US$72-US$116/£40-£65) for the motel rooms, C$120 to C$189 (US$108-US$170/£60-£95) for the cottages, and C$195 to C$399 (US$176-US$359/£98-£200) for the suites.
