Danyang isn't a huge tourist destination yet, so it means fewer crowds, but also older, less upscale accommodations. The Danyang Tourist Hotel Edelweiss, 264-2 Sangjin-li, Danyang-eup, Danyang-gun (tel. 043/423-7070; fax 043/423-4234; www.danyanghotel.com), which is not the most conveniently located, has nicely decorated rooms and views of the lake. Standard Western-style and ondol rooms start at W120,000 ($129/£65), triples W140,000 ($150/£75), and suites W200,000 ($215/£108). There are several restaurants, a cafe, night club, and spa on-site.
Even more economical motels and yeogwan can be found in Shin Danyang, between the lake's ferry pier and the bus station. A perfectly serviceable "love motel" in the area is Opera House, 512 Dojeon-li, Danyang-eup, Danyang-gun (tel. 043/423-5751). With doubles going for just W30,000 to W40,000 ($32-$43/£16-£22), it's a bargain. Rooms come with the basic bed, minifridge, and TV, but also include a computer with Internet access. In downtown Danyang, just look for the ridiculously ornate, white Greco-Roman facade.
