Frommer's Review
Built as an apartment house in 1927 and handsomely restored in 1993, the Leland House offers an intriguing mix of lodging types in a comfortable inn with early-20th-century decor. Owned by the Komick family, who also own the historic Rochester Hotel across the street , the Leland House contains six suites with sitting rooms and full kitchens, plus four studios with kitchenettes. All have private bathrooms with showers (no tubs) and are decorated with a compatible combination of good-quality beds, antiques, near-antiques, and contemporary furniture. The Pittman Suite is a large family suite with two full bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a balcony. Rooms are named for historic figures associated with the Leland House and its neighbors, such as Max Baer, world heavyweight boxing champion in the 1930s. Throughout the house are photos, memorabilia, and framed biographies of these individuals, many of whom played significant roles in the development of early Durango.

| Frommer's Colorado, 10th Edition | |
| 0 stars | Frommer's Recommended | |
| 1 stars | Frommer's Highly Recommended | |
| 2 stars | Frommer's Very Highly Recommended | |
| 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
