Review of Anne-Claude VirchauxShe's a one-woman show, a locally born artiste who designs and weaves her own textiles before cutting them into the kind of artfully "bohemian" garment that women as far away as California would fight to own. All of this occurs within a studio/sales outlet that overflows with weaving and dressmaking techniques that originated 4,000 years before the birth of Christ, although in this case with combinations of silk, cotton, linen, wool, and cashmere whose textures absolutely scream out to be touched. No other dressmaker in Switzerland crafts garments this way, or with as much innate "soul." Colors we crave that seem, at least here, perennially attractive include pumpkin, persimmon, wheat, and several heavenly shades of ocher and blue. When, one asks, will the editors at Vogue discover this treasure, and which female U.S. politicians would look fabulous in this kind of garment? (Clinton? Pelosi?) Garments, each completely original and one-of-a-kind, cost from 500F to 1,600F each. Anne-Claude herself is usually on-site, engagingly showcasing her craft and her looms, usually with a tape measure thrown around her neck that her fans view as a combination fashion accessory and badge of honor Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
