This is the third luxe choice for Naples, excelled only by Parker's and the Vesuvio. The Excelsior occupies a dramatic position on the waterfront, with views of Santa Lucia and Vesuvius from its dramatic roof garden terrace. After a long decline, the hotel has bounced back under Starwood (which also owns the posh Vesuvio next door) and boasts elegant details such as Venetian chandeliers, Doric columns, wall-size murals, and bronze torchiers. Most of the spacious guest rooms are furnished in the Empire style, with heavy wood furniture, elegant fabrics, paneled walls, and brass trim. Carrara marble cloaks the walls of the bathrooms.
