Frommer's Review
The charming Hotel Waldinger is an oasis of elegance in the center of Osijek, a city that is still struggling to recover from the 1991 war. Named after 19th-century painter Adolf Igniat Waldinger and built in the center of town in 1904, this small hotel was completely renovated in 2004. It now offers guests modern conveniences in an elegant, Secessionist-style interior, which is in stark contrast to the ultramodern high-rise Hotel Osijek a block away. Waldinger guest rooms are oversize and distinctive with soft colors, rich fabrics, and luxurious bathrooms. The paintings throughout the public and private spaces communicate the civilized air of a European manor. The English-speaking staff is helpful and courteous. Breakfast for Waldinger guests is in a private first-floor dining room, but Coffee-House Waldinger at street level is open to the public. Besides its prime location steps away from one of the city's main squares, Trg Ante Starcevica, the Waldinger has a private lot with video-monitored free parking -- a major perk for guests with cars.
