Tofino -- There are easily 100 or more places to stay in Tofino; mid-March through October, the Long Beach Visitor Information Centre, about 1.5km (1 mile) from the Highway 4 junction to Tofino (tel. 250/725-3414; www.tourismtofino.com), is open daily 10am to 6pm, and keeps a helpful list of vacancies. Stop here before driving into town if you don't have reservations.
The 94 campsites on the bluff at Green Point are maintained by Pacific Rim National Park (tel. 250/726-7721). The grounds are full every day in July and August, and the average wait for a site is 1 to 2 days. Leave your name at the ranger station when you arrive to be placed on the list. You're rewarded for your patience with a magnificent ocean view, pit toilets, fire pits, pumped well water, and free firewood (no showers or hookups). Sites are C$17 to C$23 (US$17-US$23/£8.50-£12). The campground is closed October to March.
The Bella Pacifica Resort & Campground, 3.5km (2 miles) south of Tofino on the Pacific Rim Highway (P.O. Box 413), Tofino, BC V0R 2Z0 (tel. 250/725-3400; www.bellapacifica.com), is privately owned and has 165 campsites from which you can walk to Mackenzie Beach or take the resort's private nature trails to Templar Beach. Flush toilets, hot showers, water, laundry, ice, fire pits, firewood, and full and partial hookups are available. Rates are C$21 to C$46 (US$21-US$46/£11-£23) per two-person campsite. Reserve at least a month in advance for a summer weekend.
