Frommer's Review
A contender for the title of Tofino's most upscale lodge is this extremely handsome log-and-stone resort perched above the waves on Cox Bay. The care and style that went into the building of the lodge and cottages is extraordinary -- in fact, the Long Beach Lodge Resort was featured in Architectural Digest magazine. The architects and designers did a great job updating the usual back-country lodge look, making the entire resort feel both timeless and comfortably modern. The Great Room, filled with fine furniture and flanked by a huge granite fireplace and massive windows overlooking Cox Bay, is the heart of the lodge, serving as breakfast and lunch room, cocktail lounge, and a comfortable living room for snoozing, reading, and watching surfers. The dining room here has quickly gained attention for its regional fine dining. Accommodations include lodge rooms (with less expensive rooms facing the forest, not the Pacific) and free-standing duplex cottages. All feature marvelous fir furniture, slate-floored bathrooms with soaker tubs and separate showers, bathrobes, and loads of rich decor (including original artwork); some rooms have fireplaces and balconies/patios. The cottages are 93-sq.-m (1,000-sq.-ft.) dwellings with all the above, plus private hot tubs, a large sitting area with overstuffed couches and chairs, washer and dryer, and a full kitchen. The rate formula is rather complex, so check the website or call for exact rates for the date of your visit. Resort staff will help you put together outdoor activities and recreation.
