The Breakers Palm Beach ReviewThis 140-acre beachfront hotel is quintessential Palm Beach, where old money mixes with new money, and the Old World gives way, albeit reluctantly, to a bit of modernity. The seven-story building is a marvel, with a frescoed lobby and long, palatial hallways. Plush rooms feature huge bathrooms and views of the ocean or the magnificently manicured grounds. The Mediterranean-style Beach Club features magnificent vistas of the ocean and is reminiscent of a panoramic island escape. After a $15-million beachfront redevelopment project, the Beach Club now features five pools, four whirlpool spas, expansive pool decks, lush tropical landscaping, and lawn space; a 6,000-square-foot rooftop terrace, 20 private, luxury beach bungalows, and 10 pool cabanas for daytime rental, with a dedicated staff of concierges; a beach gazebo; and two restaurants. The 20,000-square-foot oceanfront spa features 17 private treatment rooms for a variety of massages, body wraps, scrubs, and Guerlain skin-care treatments and steam and sauna. Spa treatments fill a 16-page book! A revamp of Florida's oldest existing golf course transformed the Ocean Course into a 6,100-yard, championship-level par-70, and the Breakers Rees Jones Course underwent a $6-million redesign and reconstruction in 2004. Kids aren't neglected either at the impressive Family Entertainment Center, a 6,160-square-foot space that includes an arcade, toddler's playroom, arts-and-crafts area, children's movie theater, and video-game room all filled with the latest in high-tech toys and games. All nine distinct restaurants are fantastic, but don't miss the remarkable Sunday brunch. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. | 3 stars | Frommer's Exceptional |
Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
