Santiago's best-known vegetarian restaurant is a hub for earthy types who come to munch on creative meat-free meals, buy a pair of Birkenstocks, or stock up on incense in the adjoining eco-products shop. There is a casual cafe (La Huerta) with a cold buffet and sandwiches, and a main restaurant (El Huerto) with heartier dishes such as burritos and Asian stir-fries. Add one of their fresh raspberry or peach juices, and it makes for a very healthful meal. The dimly lit dining room of El Huerto has a restful atmosphere, and is pleasantly cool during hot days; there is also limited outdoor seating. The cafe La Huerta is now open for breakfast, serving omelets, granola, and freshly baked bread.
