An enduring favorite among hipsters, artists, and actors alike, El Toro is the kind of restaurant you expect to see in San Francisco's Mission District, or New York's Lower East Side. The ambience is laid-back and service is friendly, and a whimsical 1970s decor, paper menus, and crayon graffiti scrawled on the walls set the mood. El Toro is always full, given that it's the only restaurant with a truly funky atmosphere in Santiago, and there is outdoor seating. El Toro is also open on Sundays, and is located close to the Bellas Artes Museum. El Toro recently opened its second restaurant in Providencia, with the same style and same menu. I always order their yummy mushroom and chicken crepes, beef filet wrapped in prosciutto, or their cannelloni Bolognese with spinach. Huge salads and tasty basil, tomato, and cheese empanadas are also favorites.
