A frumpy English decor reigns at this downtown hotel, yet plans are in the works for 2007 to renovate and update with a contemporary design in line with the Fundador's second hotel, Remota. For now, it's the kind of place you can imagine your elderly grandmother choosing for lodging. Many guest rooms are showing their age, even in their newer wing. Located on the edge of the atmospheric Barrio París-Londres, the hotel is on a quieter street than other downtown hotels yet within walking distance to attractions and the cafes of the Lastarría area. When booking, ask if they have a newly updated room as renovations will take place in stages. The staff is helpful and amicable, but there's little "spark"; hopefully it will achieve this when it undergoes a makeover.
