Hotel Plaza San Francisco ReviewFollowing an exhaustive $5-million renovation in 2008, rooms at the Plaza are now comfortable, if rather homogenous -- all sport the neutral tones and Pottery Barn-esque furnishings that are clearly the decor of choice in the Santiago hotel industry today. While it may not exude the class and style of its luxury peers, the prices here are more affordable than the competition most of the year (the exception is in Oct or Nov). The Hotel Plaza is on bustling Avenue Alameda, but behind the hotel lie the tranquil pedestrian streets of the Barrio ParÃs-Londres micro-neighborhood, and guest rooms have double-paned windows to muffle noise. The hotel's proximity to downtown attractions and the shops and cafes of the LastarrÃa Street area is a definite perk, especially if you are only in town for a day or two. The hotel has a long list of amenities, but note that their "spa" is really a fitness center with a sauna and massage services. The Bristol Restaurant has been lavished with national gastronomic awards. Facilities: Note: This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Frommer's ranks every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment it reviews for quality, value, service, amenities, and special features using a star-rating scale, an expression of the strong compare-and-contrast opinions that are a brand hallmark.
Other ratings provide stars based primarily on price and amenities; the Frommer's star rating is meant to quantify the kind of intangible, experiential elements that help travelers make informed decisions.
The "baseline" recommendation is zero stars--every hotel, restaurant, attraction, shop, and nightlife establishment that Frommer's chooses to review is recommended; otherwise, we simply wouldn't include it.
