Getting There -- From Madrid, Iberia has six daily flights to Santiago, and there are three daily flights from Barcelona. The only international airport in Galicia is east of Santiago de Compostela at Lavacolla (tel. 98-154-75-01 for flight information), 11km (7 miles) from the center on the road to Lugo.
From La Coruña, 20 trains make the 1-hour trip daily at a cost of 3.75€ to 5€ ($4.90-$6.50). Two trains arrive daily from Madrid; the 8-hour trip costs 43€ ($56). Call tel. 90-224-02-02 for information (www.renfe.es).
Buses leave on the hour, connecting La Coruña with Santiago (1 hr.), and cost 6.15€ ($8) one-way. For information, call Monbus (tel. 98-155-57-60; www.castromil.com). Six buses a day arrive in Santiago from Madrid, taking 8 hours and costing 65€ ($85) one-way. For information, call Alsa at tel. 98-158-61-33.
If you're driving, take the express highway (A-9/E-50) south from La Coruña to reach Santiago. From Madrid, N-VI runs to Galicia. From Lugo, head south along N-640.
Visitor Information -- The tourist office, at Rua del Villar 43 (tel. 98-158-40-81; www.turgalicia.es.), is open Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm, Saturday 11am to 2pm and 5 to 7pm, and Sunday 11am to 2pm.
