This pocket of posh in a semitropical garden is an excellent choice. It was the birthplace of poet Torquato Tasso, yet the 16th-century poet would hardly recognize the palatial villa today. The spacious guest rooms are well furnished, and some have balconies opening onto panoramic sea views. High ceilings and gilt-framed mirrors provide a traditional look. The drawing room is replete with English and Italian antiques. In the garden, you can inhale the fragrance of the sweet-smelling trees and walk down paths of oleander, hydrangea, acacia, coconut palms, and geraniums. An elevator takes guests to the beach below the main hotel.
