Frommer's Review
This luxurious hotel is located in Sant'Agnello, within walking distance of Sorrento's center. The building -- originally a 16th-century Jesuit monastery -- was turned into a hotel in 1822 and has since been restored and updated to maintain its 19th-century elegance and style. While here, you'll tread in the steps of such famous guests as Goethe and the Duke of Wellington, who enjoyed the magnificent park surrounding the hotel and the terrace -- actually a private promenade -- overlooking the sea. Public spaces are palatial and even the simpler rooms -- furnished with a mix of antiques, quality reproductions, and fine fabrics -- partake in the general elegance; some even have frescoed ceilings. Of course, the ones opening over the terrace and the sea are the most beautiful, but all rooms have spacious marble bathrooms. The park offers a multitude of diversions, including outdoor tennis and a delightful pool where, during good weather, barbecue lunches are offered under the orange trees. The seasonal concerts held here are also a popular attraction.
