Frommer's Review
A 20-minute flight by private plane from Nausori Airport, 50 minutes from Nadi, this superdeluxe beachside facility is the brainchild of Canadian entrepreneur David Gilmour, who also introduced us to "Fiji" bottled water. Gilmour has sold off pieces of Wakaya for deluxe getaway homes. For a small fortune you can rent one of these villas, including Gilmore's own Japanese-influenced mansion high on a ridge overlooking the resort. Nicole Kidman (a regular guest) and other Hollywood types who don't own a private villa -- or can't borrow a friend's -- feel right at home in the club's large, super-luxurious bungalows. The food here is of gourmet quality and outstandingly presented. Guests dine in a huge thatched-roof beachside building or outside, either on a patio or under two gazebo-like shelters on a deck surrounding a pool with its own waterfall. Compared to Turtle Island and Vatulele Island resorts, where a party atmosphere often prevails, here the excellent, unobtrusive Fijian staff leaves the guests alone. Your wish is their command. When all is said and done, this is Fiji's most luxurious resort.
