Frommer's Review
Backpackers flock to this rustic lodge beside a nearly round, quarry-turned-lake high in the hills near Colo-I-Suva Forest Park . The climes are cool up here, and although "Raintree" refers to an acacia tree, it can rain a lot in this forest. Except for the vehicles passing on Prince's Road, you'll hear very little except the songs of tropical birds. Built of pine and overlooking the lake, the bungalows are spacious, and their beds have mosquito nets (the windows are screened, too). All have ceiling fans and bathrooms with showers. Dormitories range in size from seven private rooms with double beds to a hall with 21 bunk beds. Their occupants and those camping out on the lawn share toilets, hot-water showers, and a kitchen. Locals love to drive up here for lunch and dinner at the rustic and inexpensive Raintree Restaurant, where they vie for tables on the lakeside veranda. The lodge is F$7 (US$4) by taxi or F90¢ (US54¢) by public bus from downtown Suva.
