The Lexington Coffee Shop, 9 W. Washington St. (tel. 540/464-6586), is a quintessential, college-town coffeehouse with a selection of exotic brews plus bagels and pastries. It's open Monday through Friday 7am to 5:30pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, and Sunday 8am to 3pm.
At the Red Hen, 11 E. Washington St. (tel. 540/464-4401; www.redhenlex.com), chef Tucker Yoder has won raves for dishes like seared trout with turnips, spatzle, apples, and brown butter. It's open for dinner Tuesday to Saturday 5 to 9pm.
You can't miss noticing Macado's, 30 N. Main St. (tel. 540/463-8200), occupying the Willson-Walker House, an 1820 Greek Revival building with big front porches both upstairs and down and formerly home to one of the Shenandoah's finest restaurants. It's an incongruous home for this casual and often noisy sports bar. It's open daily 8pm to 1am.
