Getting There

There are seven flights a week from Madrid to A Coruña. Serviced only by Iberia, Aeropuerto de Alvedro (tel. 90-240-47-04; www.aena.es) lies 10km (6 miles) from the heart of the city.

Trains arrive at Estación San Cristóbal, Plaza San Cristóbal (tel. 90-224-02-02; www.renfe.es). Depending on the train, the one-way ride from Madrid lasts 8 1/2 to 11 hours and costs 50€. Monbus (tel. 90-229-29-00) runs buses between A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela every hour. Trip time one-way is between 50 minutes and 1 1/2 hours, and costs 11€.

By car, A Coruña is reached from Madrid by the N-VI. You can also follow the coastal highway, N-634, which runs all the way across the northern rim of Spain from San Sebastián to the east.

The tourist office at Dársena de la Marina s/n (tel. 98-122-18-22; www.turgalicia.es) is open Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm and 4 to 7pm, Saturday 11am to 2pm, and Sunday 11am to 2pm.
